Therapeutic and protective use against trichomoniasis

registration number: 99/010/90-S

Composition: Each tablet contains: Active ingredients: Ornidazole 20.0 mg. Excipients: Thiamine Hydrochloride, Riboflavin, Pyrdoxine Hydrochloride, Calcium Pantothenate, Lactose Monohydrate, Potato Starch, Corn Starch, Sodium Salt, Starch Carboxymethyl A, Talc, Calcium Stearate.

Animal species: Pigeons, exotic birds.

Characteristics: The mechanism of bactericidal action of ornidazole consists in 4 phases; in the entry of the drug into the intracellular environment, in the reduction of the nitro-group and the formation of partially reduced metabolites that interact with DNA molecules, thereby inhibiting the activity and synthesis of proteins of the microorganism, and finally in the production of inactive end products. Bactericidal activity is dependent on the formation of intermediates of redox reactions in bacteria. These toxic metabolites primarily interact with DNA, RNA, or intracellular proteins, and their main mechanism of action is to cleave DNA strands, inhibit damaged DNA repair, damage transcription, and subsequent protozoa death.

Ornidazole is well absorbed (>80%) after p.o. application and maximum plasma concentrations are reached within 2-4 hours. 5 – Nitroimidazole drugs are distributed primarily to the liver, kidneys, muscles, skin and fat after p.o. application. Ornidazole is metabolised in the liver and excreted from the body mainly through the urine, in the form of metabolites (glucurone conjugates), less than 4% is excreted as an unchanged active substance.

Application: Peroral application. Individually into the beak, most suitable before morning feeding. Application is recommended 10 days after laying eggs.

Pigeons and exotic birds: One tablet daily during 3 days.

The therapeutic dose should be adhered.
